The not-so-cool routine

"I hate the person next to me"
I'm typing rapidly and even though the tube is in one of the underground stations, I oddly feel the urge to send it to someone

Commutes are boring. They are platforms for people to judge or get judged. They are also heaven for mosquitoes, pick pockets and perverts as it's usually crowded and an inch of movement will only give pleasure to them.

With every update to the mode of transport, people find odd ways of passing time. When you are in a bus filled with 50 other people, all you can do is to pray god for not letting you get stuck under someone's armpit or think about the stop where the annoying kid will get down so that you get to sit with the beautiful person beside ;)

When you are in a train, all you can think of is the vantage point from where you can keep an eye on your luggage and in a flight, maybe one next to the restroom (if you get sick of high altitudes like me)

But with metro coming in, people did have the problem of spotting a seat but more than that, they got paranoid of what could be done to get rid of the boredom when in the underground stations (sans network) and thus came the concept of peeping.

Be it a teen who is too cool for your taste, a middle aged woman/man  , a kid who is genuinely curious or an elderly citizen who has 'seen it all', everybody seems to be interested in knowing what you are doing with your mobile!

You enter the tube and all you can think of is that one video that you watched half (thanks to the annoying siblings at home). So you open the link and start watching - occasionally laughing at the subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle jokes made. After sometime, you look up to check which stop the tube is in and thats when you realize its not just you but your neighbors, the person standing in front of you and one more in diagonally opposite position - all are watching the video along with you. And no! You can't just pause or switch it off mid way! that is just insensitive! if ever you do so, you will be met with deathly stare and disapproving nods.

So next time you board the metro, make sure your phone is charged fully and loaded with interesting videos - who knows what your neighbor might like?
