The foundation of friendship

 Have you ever wondered who your kids might end up resembling? I’m not talking about the age old - mother vs father resemblance or even the fourth cousin from the fathers family which seems much plausible than the kid resembling the mother! It’s more of subtle qualities. I for one thought the kids always get our worst habits. Well, my kid has! She is more messier than me ( poor husband now has to clean twice the amount he had signed up for). She is more aloof than I ever was! ( try getting her to answer you in the first 5 mins and I’ll treat you to a lavish dinner! ). She is also more dramatic! ( and here I was thinking it couldn’t get any worse! Why god why?!)

But do these have a silver lining? Maybe.. 

I’ve always been the over protective one in a relationship. Any time I was getting close to someone and thought we were going to the next step - friendship, I would stop them and give a quick warning. ‘Hey! I am super possessive. I’m quite clingy and also very much over protective. Do you agree to go ahead!? ‘ Fortunately a lot of them did nod (one has done that virtually too) and I’m grateful for them. I must say, I’ve been persistent in getting the virtual pen-pal to accept my friendship without so much as an option  (maybe this needs to go in my resume!! ) The kid has been all of that ever since she jumped out of my womb (atleast she jumped in my version of the story of her birth)

The little monster doesn’t sleep till I’m  back from office, no matter the time. She never leaves me to go with anyone else for a visit, even kids her age. She doesn’t even go to a game if she feels I might need her. She once got her clenched fists ready to punch my uncle when she heard him talk about a time he had scared me as a kid! She was practically 2 rooms and 8 South Indian relatives away! Now that’s an impressive range of hearing! 

And she is persistent! She has done this every day since the last 7 years!! 

I’ve never been a ‘I loved my baby the minute it came out of me’ kind of mom. But she has been so darn persistent and adorable that I’ve fallen hard for her! Only thing remaining is for me to ask her..

“I am super possessive. I’m quite clingy and also very much over protective. Do you agree to go ahead!? “

Here’s to hoping she would like to stay friends with me for life!
