Here is a confession - We parents are as clueless as the kids. The day I’m going to hand over my scribbles to the little one, she may laugh her head off (and look at me with disbelief remembering all the times I posed as if I knew what I was doing!).
But for now, the little monster looks at me with this big brown eyes thinking I know everything about the world and beyond! Who is more wise than mommy? You must be kidding! Google and none else!
So the little one came to me last evening with a expression that I see very often in her face.. the one where she’s trying to figure out what the hell is going on (boy aren’t we all in the same boat?!). She sat beside me and said “mommy.. what should I do when I get jealous about someone?“. Now my parenting techniques kicked in to tell her it was a bad emotion but I am not sure of that anymore! Blame this on countless articles I’ve read on better parenting and breaking the chain on generational trauma! I sat beside her and asked “what are you jealous about”? I was hoping she would give me an existential crisis which would give me a chance to figure the answer to world problems but who was I kidding? She is 7!
“My friend has longer hair than me! I feel so jealous looking at her”
Now this might seem like a silly thing but not for my kid.
I put my thinking hats on, gave her the Sherlock look and said in the most serious of tones…
“Let’s Google!”
